What the integration layer does
The integration layer translates formats between systems, constrains access scope, logs every operation and queues safely when a source system is unavailable. It lets AI capability be swapped without touching the core system each time.
When replacement really is the answer
Replacement is worth considering when the system is no longer vendor-supported, offers no interfaces, or the business model has moved beyond its data structures. That is where a readiness assessment puts replacement and AI goals on the same roadmap.
